Course:  Qualitative Research Methods

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn general aspects of qualitative research methods
  • Explains how qualitative research processes work.
  • Explains the main characteristics of qualitative data collection techniques
  • Explains various qualitative data analysis methods.
  • Develops evaluation criteria for qualitative research reports.
  • Evaluates a qualitative research report based on the evaluation criteria.

Individual / Group Activity:

Kahoot questionnaire: Collaborative Learning Activity

Purpose of this activity is to engage students, refresh their learnings during the course they learned so far. This Kahoot activity comprises 20 questions help students to brainstorm ideas for better understanding and lifelong learning.

Question / Answer Session: Discuss within your group, your experiences from different situations and environments, the experiences should preferably come from work situations. Relevant experiences from studies, private life, and traveling can be included.

Padlet Activity: This activity specially designed for Textual Analysis. How textual analysis can be made? Difference between Content Analysis and Textual analysis. Learning about skimming of data etc.

  • Students should be able to identify the overall process of designing a research study from its inception to its report.
  • Students should be familiar with mixed methods research:
    1. The types of mixed methods designs that are typically used
    2. How to interpret a diagram of a mixed methods design by knowing the notations
    3. Why it is suitable for studying types of research problems
  • Evaluates a qualitative research report based on the evaluation criteria.
  • Students will revise the steps involved in qualitative data collection.
